Center for Safe Schools has available training programs for public schools, charter schools and Intermediate Units in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. These programs are available for Act 48 professional development credit.

The following is a partial list of emergency response programs available for delivery at your school:

General Programs

Administrator and Response Team Trainings

  • Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings (5 hours)
  • Implementing ICS in your School (3 hours)
  • Table Top Exercises for Schools with a “Make and Take” Component (6 hours)

Administrator and Counselor/Psychologist Trainings

Science Teachers, Curriculum Directors and Administrators

  • HazMat Prevention in K-12 Schools (3 hours)

These programs are available to other organizations on a fee-for-service basis.

Preparing Parents for School Emergencies
This online training video is designed to provide parents of children in K-12 schools with an understanding of why schools develop all-hazards plans. Parents will also be given information on ways they assist their families and the school in preparation for school emergencies. This session covers actions parents should resist taking in the event of an emergency at their child's school. Runtime: 20:51

School Shooters: An Awareness Program for School Staff
This online training video is designed to provide school staff members with a basic awareness of their responsibilities in preparing for and responding to an active shooter situation in their school. This session covers standard procedures for effective school staff interface and interaction with law enforcement during active shooter situations. Runtime: 47:53


REMS  Online Courses

The U.S. Department of Education's REMS TA Center offers a diverse set of trainings, including on-demand webinars and online courses, to practioners in the field of school and higher ed emergency management.


EMI/FEMA Online Courses

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers self-paced courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. All are offered free-of-charge to those who qualify for enrollment.

FEMA’s Independent Study Program offers courses that support the nine mission areas identified by the National Preparedness Goal.
